Through his decades of service and volunteer work within the healthcare industry and LGBTQ community, Arthur Fitting has strived for improved access to home health care for LGBTQ individuals. Fitting has spent time volunteering with several LGBTQ organizations, including: the Gay-Lesbian Medical Association, the LGBT Health Equity Coalition, the American Nurses Association and the New York City LGBT Community Center.

The VNS Health Gender Affirmation Program addresses the unique needs of transgender and nonbinary people having gender affirmation surgery. Shannon Whittington continues to set the gold standard of care for transgender patients after gender affirming surgery. For her achievements, Whittington has received a number of awards including a Quality and Innovation Award from the Home Care Association of New York State and the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
